Awning ("we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our AI-powered website generation platform ("Service"). By using the Service, you consent to the practices described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and authentication credentials through our authentication provider (Clerk). We may also collect a profile photo if provided.

Business Information

To generate your website, we collect business details you provide: business name, category, address, city, state, phone number, website URL, and Google Maps URL. This information is used to create your AI-generated website content.

Uploaded Content

Photos and images you upload during onboarding or site management are stored securely using Vercel Blob storage.

Payment Information

Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe. We do not store credit card numbers, CVVs, or full card details on our servers. We store only your Stripe customer ID and subscription ID for billing management.

Usage Data

We automatically collect information about how you interact with the Service, including pages visited, features used, browser type, device information, and IP address.

Google Places Data

When you provide a Google Maps URL, we may retrieve publicly available business information from the Google Places API, including reviews, business hours, photos, and contact details. This data is used solely to populate your generated website.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Generate and host your AI-created website
  • Create SEO-optimized content tailored to your business
  • Process payments and manage subscriptions
  • Synchronize your Google Business Profile data (if enabled)
  • Generate monthly blog posts (Pro plan)
  • Send service-related notifications and updates
  • Improve and optimize the Service
  • Respond to support requests
  • Comply with legal obligations

4. AI Processing

Your business information is sent to Anthropic's Claude AI to generate website content, blog posts, and SEO-optimized copy. This processing is necessary to provide the core Service. Anthropic processes this data according to their own privacy policy and data processing terms.

We do not use your business data to train AI models. The information is used solely for generating content specific to your request.

5. Information Sharing & Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:

  • Service Providers: Clerk (authentication), Stripe (payments), Anthropic (AI generation), Neon (database), Vercel (hosting & deployment), Google (Places API), and Inngest (background job processing).
  • Legal Requirements: When required by law, regulation, or legal process.
  • Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to affected users.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account and business data for as long as your account is active. Upon account deletion or termination, we will delete your data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as resolving disputes).

Generated websites are taken offline immediately upon account termination. Backup copies may persist in our systems for up to 90 days before full deletion.

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS), encrypted database connections, secure authentication, and access controls. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate personal data
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data
  • Portability: Request a machine-readable copy of your data
  • Objection: Object to certain processing of your data
  • Withdrawal of Consent: Withdraw consent where processing is consent-based

9. Cookies & Tracking

We use essential cookies required for authentication and session management. We do not currently use advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels. Our authentication provider (Clerk) may set functional cookies necessary for secure sign-in.

10. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for individuals under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 18, we will take steps to delete it promptly.

11. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed and stored in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of your data to these jurisdictions, which may have different data protection laws than your country of residence.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or an in-app notice at least 30 days before the changes take effect. The "Effective date" at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised.
